One episode had a pet of Al’s, a turtle named “Scooter,” which Tim accidentally dropped in cement. With his dry wit, Al serves as the show’s straight-forward, sensible man to the wackier, extra outgoing Tim. Beginning at the end of the fifth season, Al invented a second supply of revenue for himself by inventing a board game based on Tool Time, which features Tim, Al and Heidi as playable characters. He is extremely House & Home Improvement News frugal and suffers from male-pattern baldness, each of which make him a frequent goal of Tim’s jokes. It is talked about that he has made a quantity of dangerous business ventures (such as a drive-thru pet store), was divorced twice, and did not end faculty (as mentioned by Jill’s sister in one episode).
